So often we see people posting on social media who are considering if they should hire a DJ for their wedding or not. In this article we will explore the reasons you need a DJ at your wedding.
Spotify is amazing. It has pretty much every song you could possibly think of at your fingertips. What an great time we are living in!
However, this is not necessarily the technological success it might seem at first.
Consider your wedding day. You decide to NOT hire a DJ and run from a Spotify playlist instead. First up you will either have to a) hire in your own equipment to run though so you get a decent sound (which probably costs almost as much as hiring a DH) or (even worse)… b) be forced to put up with the (probably) sub-par quality of the venue sound system.
This is only the start.
The next problem is that there is no transition between tracks. A DJ will play the songs in a logical order, ensuring the next track played works well with the track before it. Not only that, but a DJ will mix the music between tracks making it seamless, keeping your guests on the dance floor. This is something that Spotify can not do. You will have tracks that don’t “fit” as well as an awkward silence between each song.
But the worst part of all …
You may have come up with a playlist you think your guests will like, but … what if they don’t like it? They will leave early because they are not enjoying the music. This often leads to guests trying to take control of the music and choosing tracks themselves. This means that there is nobody there to take control of the music and you will end up with the most obscure tracks that really don’t fit the mood you were hoping for.
The ambience will suffer. Without your guests seeing a person in control and playing the music, there is no ambience or recognition of that person who is playing the music. It’s robotic and cold. “That Spotify playlist is really creating a great atmosphere”, said nobody ever.
A DJ is that gate-keeper. That person that filters the requests from your guests to ensure they are played when they fit the vibe (or in some cases just don’t get played at all in the case of a bad request).
Remember, that most couples say the thing they wish for more than anything on their wedding day is for “everyone to have a good time”. Your cake, dress, decorations and flowers are NOT going to be what your guests consider as giving them a “good time”. A “good time” is created by a memorable night of dancing and fun. Something that a Spotify playlist will not give them.
If your main wish is for everyone to have a “good time”, invest in the elements that actually align with your vision. Invest in a DJ that will be in control and play the right songs at the right time along with perfect transitions between each song.
