Why DJs cancel is simple to understand when you realise just how many shifty operators are out there ready to take your money and run.
Not a week goes by when we don’t get a call from at least one person asking if we have anyone available for their wedding day. (Which is usually only a few days or weeks away). The most common thing we hear is “my DJ fell through”. I have no idea how a reputable DJ would ever “fall through”. We have been in this business for years and have provided our high quality Gold Coast DJs to hundreds of weddings. Not once have we ever “fallen through”. Even if one of our DJs becomes ill, or worse we have a contingency plan in place to ensure our clients special days are not effected.
After a call just prior to writing this from yet another customer who wanted a DJ for this weekend because their “DJ fell through”, I started considering the amount of times this has happened and working out exactly what is happening here. Piecing together true stories I have heard along with other industry rumors, I think I have worked out some of the main causes this happens.
The most common problem is that people try and save a few dollars by shopping around and going for a cut-price hobbyist DJ. This is the sort of person who probably works either a full-time or part-time job and just does a bit of DJ work on the side. Now, we can’t blame anyone for trying to save a few dollar, but I believe there is nothing more important than your DJ for your special day. I can think of a dozen other areas to “save a few bucks”.
Why DJs Cancel
Some of the common reasons why DJs cancel includes –
- They over committed themselves and realise they can’t get out of another commitment.
- They got a better offer elsewhere that is willing to pay them more money (now holding your wedding at ransom where the highest bidder wins).
- After getting your deposit, the company has gone broke.
- It’s horrible to think, but we have heard of a couple of operators that practice gaining confidence in their clients and take a deposit. After getting the deposit they then shut down their company and all associated contact details only to open again under a new name in the near future.
