Have you considered adding some fun and games to your wedding reception?
Whilst some may cringe at the idea, it is definitely worthwhile thinking about.
Afterall, what is a wedding reception but a party?
Time to celebrate and give your guests a fun experience.
You might think having great food, drinks and good music is enough to entertain everyone, but what about those that don’t want to get up and dance? Will they walk away from the wedding saying they were entertained? Probably not so much as those that hit the dance floor all night.
Including a few games may change that. Even for people who never got on the dance floor even once will say they had a great time because of the extra elements you brought in the form of fun games to keep everyone laughing.
What games are out there to possibly include?
Let’s start with the classic (although somewhat overdone), the “Shoe Game” also known as the “Couples Game”.
The Shoe Game
The couple sits back to back and removes their shoes. Each keep on of their own shoes and one of their partner’s shoes. The couple then answer a series of questions by raising which shoe they believe answers the question best. Questions are things like … Who buys the most shoes? Who is the better driver? Etc.
This is a fun game that gets some laughs, but only involves the couple playing. There are other great games that involve your guests too! Let’s look at some of these now …
The Scavenger Hunt
The couple choose a number of players from their guests. (Aiming for about 10% of the guests is a good number for a game, so if you have 80 guests, pick 8 players). The MC will then have the guests come to the dance floor with their chairs and sit down. The MC will then read a list of items (one item per round) for them to go and collect and bring back to their chair, however the MC will take away one chair each time. Eventually there will only be one winner who wins the game! (Items can be things like a pair of sunglasses, a drivers licence etc).

The Blindfolded Dance Off
This is a great game where the couple (early in the night) lets the MC know who it is that they want to be the “victim” of the game. (Typically the best man!). The MC then takes time over dinner to go and chat to each table explaining how the game is going to work. Each table will nominate one “dancer” to participate, but the MC lets them know that they won’t really be dancing at all. The idea is that once everyone is up on the dance floor, each player is fitted with a blind fold. Once the music starts, all players are going to do their best dance moves to see who is the best dancer. The trick is, all the players, other than the “victim” knows they are not going to really dance so as soon as the music starts they take off their blind folds, leaving the “victim” to hilariously dance all alone on the floor.
This is great for some laughs, but make sure you only pick someone that can take the joke.
There are many more games, but the ones are above are some of the most requested. We hope this article has given you some inspiration to think about including some games at your wedding reception.
