So you want a DJ Demo?
We get this question from time to time. But, to be honest, what exactly are you hoping to hear?
This would make perfect sense if you wanted to hear a demo of my live music offerings, as you want to hear how I sound as a singer and guitarist, but when it comes to DJ services, I play what YOU the client wants to hear.
Sure, we can provide you with recordings of mixes we have done at other events, but it’s not YOUR event so you might hear the mix and think “I don’t like those songs”. That would be because it’s not YOUR event so we played what that particular client wanted to hear.
Sample mixes are available, but you have to realise that what you hear was tailored to that specific client and their musical tastes, not a taste you necessarily share with them.
As a DJ, I often play (mostly) the original version of the song you already have heard and know, so hearing me play it is no different to what you are already familiar with. However, I do mix the songs together during the dance portion of the evening (when possible) to keep a good flow of the music.
It is more usual to request a demo mix of a DJ if you were a nightclub promoter or festival promoter as the music in those situations is much more “creative” and not necessarily created to cater to the diverse audience you would expect at an event like a wedding.
If I mixed at a wedding like I would at a nightclub or a festival, there is a high chance your guests will not enjoy the music and leave early as, typically, people at weddings just want to hear the song they are familiar with played the way they know and love it.
Hopefully this makes some sense when it comes to what it is I do as a DJ for weddings.
If you are after a nightclub or festival style DJ, I am not the best choice. Whilst I can play that style and mix it, I don’t want to accept the responsibility of having your one special day ruined by music that many of your guests will not be able to connect with.
DJ Demo … you still want one?
If you really want to hear a DJ demo of my mixing, you can check out this classic rock mix, but it’s probably not what you want at your event, so it’s really a bit pointless.
I look forward to chatting with you about how we can help you to have an amazing event that will have your guests all enjoying the night with you.
Warmly,
Nik Reeds
