THE CREED OF THE WEDDING DJ
I am a professional wedding DJ
My friends envy me because they think I only work one day per week.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I sometimes envy my friends who have a guaranteed weekly pay cheque. I envy that they get paid holiday pay, sick pay and get an employee contributed superannuation. I envy that they don’t have to pay for all their own marketing, figure out how to get found in the search engines. I envy that they don’t have to pay for own insurances and licences. I envy that they can walk into a bank and easily get a home loan as an “employee” whilst we self employed DJs are often viewed by financial institutions as “undesirable risks”.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I absolutely love each and every one of my clients. I take the time to meet with them on multiple occasions (which I do for free), take their phone calls as often as they want to call and guide them in not only the entertainment section, but ALL aspects of their wedding day. I become their source of information and inspiration. I often have the privilege of becoming these peoples friends. At times I even have to do some counselling to see them through tough and stressful times.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am constantly learning and improving. Honing my skills and music knowledge to be the very best version of myself I can be for my client’s wedding day. I spend a lot of time and money on building my music library and becoming familiar with people’s tastes of music.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am responsible for running my own business, balancing my own books and ensuring I am actually making a profit. I have the stress of seasonal peaks and troughs to deal with. Learning to save during the peak times to see me through the down times.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I invest in myself. I spend a lot of time and money in training myself to become a better DJ, professional speaker, business person, marketer, web-designer and internet marketer.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am the one single element of the special day that can have people saying either “That was the greatest wedding ever” or leaving as soon as dinner and speeches have finished to get away from the poor quality entertainment.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am fighting a constant battle against the poor reputation that was given to me by those that have come before me. I am always battling the damage done by hobby DJs that disrespect the gravity of how serious an event a wedding is. As a DJ I am frequently seen as little more than a “clown” of the wedding industry due to the hurt done by far too many unprofessional DJs.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am the one that is often the lowest paid of all professional wedding providers, but the first one blamed if the night is a failure.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I am often paid even less than what was spent on a cake.
I am a professional wedding DJ
I contribute more to the success of a wedding than a cake.
I am a professional wedding DJ.
I am worth MUCH MORE than a cake.
