Why hire a professional Wedding Master of Cermonies?
Simply because only a professionally trained Master of Ceremonies understands exactly what the role entails. Most people make the dreadful mistake of having a family member or friend fulfill this most important of roles, only to have their night run poorly and not on time.
You need a professional Master of Ceremonies for the same reason you hired a professional celebrant to marry you. They know what they are doing! (Legalities aside), you probably wouldn’t get a family member or friend to run your ceremony would you? Because it takes great attention to detail and understanding how a ceremony flows and what is expected. This is no different to the reception. Only a professional MC will know how to run the reception correctly.
A Master of Ceremonies is responsible for SO MUCH MORE than just making a few announcements. A Master of Ceremonies is the person that is the host of the reception. You appoint them to be the glue that holds everything together. This means that a good MC will be working all night to keep everything running smoothly. This is not a very good position to put a family member or friend in, they want to relax and enjoy the night, not work.
Of course a good master of ceremonies will have a clear speaking voice, but this seems to be the main criteria many couples make the mistake of thinking when they choose a family member or friend for this role.

Many wedding master of ceremonies just find themselves falling into this role. I have invested thousands of dollars and a lot of time and training to make myself the very best MC I can be for our couple’s special day.
I have studied and been mentored by some of the great MCs in the industry. People like Mark Ferrell, Mitch Taylor, Jim Cerone and Randy Bartlett from the United States as well as many of our great Australian Master of Ceremonies have been instrumental in shaping the MC I am today. I am also an active member of the International DJ & MCs ToastMasters group, which I attend every week to keep on top of my game and further my skills.
There is nothing worse than watching a family member or friend, (who means well) completely destroy the event though their poor organisation skills and general lack of understanding of what a wedding master of ceremonies is supposed to be doing. The unfortunate part is, they (and the wedding couple) often think they did a great job after the night is over, but don’t realise how much BETTER it could have been if they had just trusted me. Not only that, it would have been a lot more relaxed for the person that had to fulfill the MC role.
Of course, MC is not the only thing I do. Most couples choose to also engage me as their DJ and/or live musician. Giving you the complete entertainment solution!

Sadly, most Master of Ceremonies DON’T do what they should. Many people choose a friend or family member to fill this role that has no idea what fulfilling this crucial role means. Other times we have witnessed “professionals” try to fill this role but also fail by being dry and boring.
Your Master of Ceremonies is the host of your event. They are responsible for a lot of things including working with you and the venue on the construction of a time line, giving you a heap of suggestions to keep the night flowing smoothly and this is all before the day even begins!
On the day, your Master of Ceremonies will bring everything together and try to adhere to the timeline as closely as possible as well as making all introductions, liaising with fellow wedding vendors and keeping your guests aware of what is happening and comfortable.
When looking for the perfect Master of Ceremonies for your special day, consider what training they have had to fulfill this role. I have trained extensively in the art of being a Master of Ceremonies though the guidance of many professionals across the world. I am a certified MarBecca Method Master of Ceremonies an alumni of the Entertainment Experience training as well as having been involved in ToastMasters groups. I have won many awards on both a local, state and national level as a Master of Ceremonies.
Hiring a professional MC means that you don’t have to rely on one of your friends or family to do this critical job. There is a lot more work and attention to detail in this role that most people realise. The benefit of hiring a professional is peace of mind that someone is “steering the ship” and keeping things running smoothly. It also gives your family and friends the opportunity to relax and enjoy the night themselves. If you ask a family member or friend to fulfil this role, they are either going to do it right, but be working all night and not have much fun OR have a lot of fun and completely mess up your night by not keeping things on time.
Hiring a Master of Ceremonies can range from free (if you ask your friend or family member to do it) to thousands of dollars (if you are getting an extremely well known MC). Whilst I have been fortunate to gather a lot of accolades as a Master of Ceremonies, I certainly believe what I charge is very fair. (I don’t charge thousands!)
Some can, some can’t. I have seen many DJs try and also act as MC and they clearly have either taken on too much workload, or they don’t have the experience to do both things. I have performed at over 3000 weddings and never used to be an MC. It was only in the last few years I honed my MC skills to a level where I feel completely comfortable in performing as both MC and DJ.
