I’m not attempting to throw shade on other DJs. Everyone has to start somewhere, but if you shop around for the cheapest price, you might just get what you paid for (or didn’t pay for!).
Not only may they not play the songs that suit your event, they might not dress appropriately, they might have sub standard equipment that sounds terrible or breaks down. There is so much more to consider when hiring a DJ than just the price.
I am sharing here (without naming) a couple of DJ set ups that … well don’t look the greatest to be honest.
Can you imagine spending so much time and effort choosing the perfect styling for your wedding day, choosing the right colours, the right flowers and centre pieces for your tables only to have this eye sore in the corner?
Then there is this DJ set up …
Imagine walking into your wedding reception, excited at seeing the room in all it’s glory then you see this? (Okay, this photo looks like it wasn’t taken at a wedding, but if it was a wedding nothing would change). The irony is, the guy who has this setup is really proud of it and thinks it looks amazing. (I know, I saw him post it proudly and commented on how great he thinks it looks).
Now, perhaps … just perhaps you actually think it DOES look fine. That’s fine. Like the saying goes … beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I doubt there would be too many people that things this looks acceptable.
This really wouldn’t look great at any type of event. How do these DJs keep getting work? Because people make the mistake of assuming a DJ is a DJ and we are all the same. We’re not!
Don’t make the mistake for your special day (that you only have one chance to get right) by hiring the cheapest option out there. You may be disappointed.
Compare the setups above with our set-up …
We believe less is more. Streamlined, elegant and high quality sound. Discreet lighting effects. Not big bars of lights assaulting the senses. Sure, during dance time, we do bring out an effects light or two, but it is always elegant and discreet.
The wedding day is about the couple and the DJ should realise that they are not the event. They are there to add to the event. Every element should blend in with the styling and effort the couple have gone to creating a seamless and beautiful experience.
We hope this article has been helpful when it comes to considering your DJ for your event and prompts you to ask more questions other than just “how much?”.
Warmly,
Nik & Natalie Reeds
